Gothic Lolita Style

Originally, Gothic Lolita is a youth fashion among Japanese teenagers and young women. It also emphasizes Victorian style girl’s clothing and often aims to imitate the appearance of Victoiran porcelain dolls. Gothloli is a combination of Lolita fashion. The style started a youth subculture and becaome a well-established genre available in various boutiques and some major department stores by around 2001. 

As a matter of fact, Gothic Lolita is one of subcategories of the Lolita styles. Other categories are Classic Lolita Dress and Sweet Lolita Dress. The Classic Lolita Dress is more traditional, light-colored, and more mature-appearance, and the Sweet Lolita is childish pastel-colored clothes, lots of lace and ribbons.

Gothic Lolita style was influenced and popularised by the imagery of femine Visual Kei bands. It is a Japanese form of rock music defined by bands, which are featuring perfomers in elaborate costumes but whose musical style varies. 

A man is named Mana, who is the cross dressing former leader and guitarist of the Visual Kei band. Another person is named Malice Mizer, who is widely credited for having helped popularise Gothic Lolita. He coined the terms Elegant Gothic Lolita and Elegant Gothic Aristocrat to describe the style of his own fashion, which was founded in 1999 and quickly established itself as one of the most coveted brands of the Gothic Lolita scene.
